My family used to call those warning lights that come on in your car’s dashboard “Dummy Lights” – as in “Hey, dummy – change your oil already!” The idea was that if you were taking good care of your car then you wouldn’t see the lights. Everything would run smoothly.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we all had our own personal dummy lights for life? Something would flash on my forehead reminding me to let others know where I’m at emotionally before blowing up at them or expecting something I didn’t ask for. It’s all too easy to forget to take care of myself. My to-do list doesn’t often have a section for “self-care”.
But maybe it should! Imagine how helpful it would be to know yourself well enough to avoid all the social dilemmas we get into each day.
Andrew Mercer and I got to thinking about this the other day and have decided to devote some time to this idea in the next installment of the Men’s Leadership Series at the Center for Christian Life Enrichment.
We’re going to develop our own dashboards! What gauges, meters, and dummy lights will help you live your very best life? It’s something we can all benefit from to live to our highest standards and develop a life of purpose, meaning, and authenticity.
Come join us Thursday, May 12th from 7pm-9pm! Cost is only $25 (bring a friend for only $10 more). It will be a high-energy night filled with self-discovery and productive inquiry into your own life!

This is going to be a very worthwhile seminar. Let’s make sure we get the word out. CLE’s satellite groups is a great place to start.
